What an alert means and who sets the thresholds

Plan: Apisense AI and Apisense PRO AI

An alert tells you that something important happened in the apiary. For example, a measurement went above a threshold, there is a suspected disease risk, or a device has a low battery. The Apisense team sets the alert thresholds. They are the same for all users, and you cannot change them in the app. If a threshold does not fit your climate, write to us.

Types of alerts

  • Colony health: a suspected disease risk from VitalSensor measurements. The VitalSensor analyses the air in the hive (volatile organic compounds, VOC). Apisense PRO AI
  • Measurements: hive temperature, humidity or weight outside the threshold. Apisense PRO AI
  • Devices: low battery, lost connection of the VitalSensor, the Scale or the Hub. Apisense PRO AI
  • Other events: a task reminder, a frame photo analysis result, a sample, an invitation to an apiary.

What an alert row shows

Each row on the Alerts screen shows:

  • what the alert is about,
  • when it came,
  • the measured value and the threshold, when the alert is about a measurement,
  • where the alert comes from: the apiary and the hive,
  • the device (Scale, VitalSensor or Hub), when the alert is about a low battery.

An unread alert has a dot.

What to do with an alert

Tap the alert. The app opens the place that the alert is about, for example:

  • measurement alert: the hive chart with the alert period marked,
  • disease alert: the disease details and Recommendations,
  • low battery alert: the battery replacement guide for this device,
  • task reminder: the task,
  • invitation: the invitation details.

If the item was deleted, you see the message This record has been deleted.

Who sets the alert thresholds

The Apisense team sets the alert thresholds. The thresholds are the same for all apiaries and can change. You cannot change a threshold in the app. You also cannot select which types of alerts you get.

If an alert comes too often or a threshold does not fit your climate, write to bee@apisense.ai. Give the apiary name, the alert type and the value at which the alert came. You can also tap the three dots on the Apiaries screen, then Send feedback.

An alert is a signal, not a diagnosis

An alert tells you: check this colony or this device. A disease alert does not replace an inspection or an examination. Before you take action, check the hive on site.

Good to know

  • Disease alerts are in the Pro AI plan.
  • Measurement and device alerts are in the Pro AI plan.
  • In the AI plan, with no devices, you get app notifications, for example Tasks for tomorrow for the tasks planned for the next day and Analysis ready when a frame photo analysis result is available.
  • In an apiary that someone shared with you, you also see the alerts of that apiary.
