How to tare the Scale

Taring sets a selected Scale measurement as zero (0 kg). From that moment, the Weight chart shows only the change of the hive mass: an increase or a decrease. You tare only in the app. The Scale has no button for taring.

How to tare the Scale

  1. Open the hive. Select the Hive state tab.
  2. Touch the header of the Weight card to expand it.
  3. Tap Tare. The button is next to Show trend.
  4. In the Tare the Scale sheet, select one option:
    • Tare now: the last reading becomes zero.
    • Tare at point: then touch a point on the chart. This measurement becomes zero.
  5. The app shows Scale tared successfully.

After taring, the card shows Current weight (tare). The chart has a Tare marker. This also works on the full-screen chart.

How to undo the Scale tare

Tap Reset next to Tare. The app removes the tare immediately, without a question. The chart shows the full hive mass again.

When the Scale tare is reset

  • When you move the Scale to another hive, the tare is reset. Tare the Scale again in the new hive.
  • When you add the Scale to a hive, the chart starts from that moment. Tare the Scale if you want to follow the change of mass.

When taring the Scale does not work

  • No measurement available to tare: the Scale has not sent a measurement yet. Wait for the first measurement.
  • Cannot tare at this point: select a different point on the chart.
  • You don't have access to this feature: in a shared apiary, taring needs full access. Taring also needs the Pro AI plan.

Good to know

  • Taring does not change the measurements. It changes only the zero point on the Weight chart.
  • Taring does not change the weight events, the honey stages or the sum in the Harvest tab. These functions calculate the changes of the hive mass, not the value from the zero point.
