How to add a note to a hive

You add a note on the hive screen, in the Notes tab. A note has text or a voice recording. You can attach photos, videos and PDF documents.

How to add a note to one hive

  1. Open the apiary, then the hive.
  2. Go to the Notes tab and tap the add button. On a different hive tab, tap the add button and select Note.
  3. On the Add note screen, check the Date field. The default is today. You can select an earlier date.
  4. Optionally, type a Title (optional).
  5. Type text in the Note field or record a voice note (see below).
  6. Optionally, tap Add attachment (see below).
  7. Tap Save.

After you save, the app goes back to the Notes tab. Attachments upload in the background. If the upload fails, the app shows Note created but file upload failed. Then you can try the upload again.

How to record a voice note

  1. On the Add note screen, tap the microphone icon in the Note field.
  2. Speak. The app shows Recording and a timer.
  3. Stop the recording and tap Save.

A note has text or a recording. You cannot save both in one note. The server makes a transcription of the recording. In the note details you see Transcription in progress..., then the text under the heading Transcription. If the transcription fails, you see Couldn't generate the transcription.

How to add a photo, video or PDF to a note

  1. On the Add note screen, tap Add attachment.
  2. Select the source: Camera, Gallery, Record video, Video from gallery or PDF document.

A video that you record in the app can be up to 2 minutes long. As a document, the app accepts only PDF.

How to add a note to the whole apiary

  1. Open the apiary.
  2. Tap Add and select Note.
  3. Fill in the note and tap Save.

The app saves a copy of this note in each hive of the apiary. You see it in the Notes tab of each hive. This option is not active when the apiary has no hives. Each copy is separate: when you edit or delete the note in one hive, the copies in other hives do not change.

Good to know

  • You cannot select some specific hives for one note. You can select one hive or the whole apiary. For several hives, add the note in each hive separately.
  • The server gives labels to notes automatically (for example, the note topic). You cannot add or change a label manually.
  • A note has up to 2000 characters of text.
  • If you leave without saving, the app asks Unsaved note. Tap Save draft. The draft is available for 5 days. You find it as a Draft card at the top of the hive note list.
  • In a shared apiary, only a person with Full access can add notes.
  • The assistant does not look at photos, videos or PDF files in notes.
  • In a web browser, Record video works only if the browser supports it. If not, use Video from gallery.

When something does not work

  • This field is required: the note has no text and no recording. Type text or record your voice.
  • Only PDF files are allowed: the document you selected is not a PDF file.
  • This file has already been added: the same file is already in the note.
