How long the first connection takes and what the countdown means¶
Plan: Apisense PRO AI
The Hub usually connects in less than one hour after you add the apiary. A discharged Hub on a cloudy day needs more time. The VitalSensor and the Scale connect only after the Hub. The counter in the app shows the estimated time to the first connection. It is an estimate, not a guarantee.
What the counter on the apiary tile means¶
After you add an apiary with a Hub, the apiary tile shows Put the Hub in the sun or connect it to a charger. and the counter Estimated time until the Hub connects.
- The counter starts when you save the apiary. You do not have to tap anything. The Hub reports by itself when it has charged.
- If the counter ends and the Hub did not report, the app shows: The Hub has not reported yet. On a cloudy day charging can take up to a day. Connect the Hub to a charger to speed it up.
- If the Hub is still silent, the app shows: Hub not responding. It may be discharged or have no signal. See A device has no connection.
- If a Hub software update is in progress, the app tells you. Then the first connection takes longer than the counter shows.
After the connection, the tile shows connected next to Hub. Then the step Mount it in the apiary appears. After you install the Hub, tap Mounted.
What the counter on the hive tile means¶
After you add a hive with a VitalSensor or a Scale, the hive tile shows Starting the hive · {connected} of {total} connected.
- Next to a device that connects: Connecting to the Hub, estimated time and a counter.
- The counter for the VitalSensor and the Scale starts only when the Hub is connected. Before that, the device has the status Awaiting connection.
- When the counter ends: Connecting is taking longer than usual; it can take a few hours. This is not an error yet.
- If the device still does not connect and the Hub is online: {device} still has not connected to the Hub. Tap See what to check.
- When all devices of the hive are connected: Hive ready. Now take the devices to the hive and tap Mounted.
What happens after the first connection¶
- Waiting for the first measurement: the device connected to the Hub but did not send a measurement yet.
- Collecting health data from the hive. This may take up to 3 days.: the VitalSensor measures, but the colony health assessment is not ready yet.
- Waiting for weather data from your location: the Hub is online, but there is no forecast yet.
Good to know¶
- Set up the kit near your house. Put the Hub outdoors, in the sun or with a charger. Put the VitalSensor and the Scale near the Hub.
- Do not switch off or restart the devices until the first data comes.
- The counter does not show the time to the next contact. It is only for the first connection.
