How to add a hive inspection

Plan: Apisense AI and Apisense PRO AI

You add an inspection on the hive screen, in the Inspection tab. An inspection has three steps: frame photos, questions about the colony, and the date. At the end, tap Finish inspection.

How to add an inspection

  1. Open the apiary, then the hive.
  2. Go to the Inspection tab. Tap Add inspection (empty list) or Add. On the Hive state or Syrup tab, tap the add button and select Inspection.
  3. In the Add photos step, add the photos:
    • middle frame: 2 photos, front and back. With the Pro AI plan the app calls it Frame with the VitalSensor, without Pro AI Central frame.
    • outer frame: 2 photos, front and back of the same frame (the first or the last frame next to the hive wall).
    • Top-down brood box photo: optional, one photo.
  4. At each photo place, tap Add photo and select Take a photo or Add photo from gallery. The See example link shows a correct photo.
  5. Tap Next. Answer the questions. The counter above the question shows the question number and the total number of questions.
  6. In the summary, check Inspection Date. The default is today.
  7. Tap Finish inspection. The app shows Inspection saved successfully.

How to add or replace a photo in a saved inspection

  1. In the Inspection tab, tap the pencil icon next to the inspection. You can also open the inspection and select ⋮ → Edit.
  2. In the photo step, remove a photo with the X button on the thumbnail.
  3. Tap Add photo and add the new photo.
  4. Go on through the questions and tap Finish inspection. The app shows Inspection updated successfully.

When you edit, the frame photo step needs 4 photos.

Inspection draft

If you leave an inspection that is not saved, the app asks Unsaved inspection. Tap Save draft. The Save draft button is also in the photo step after you add the first photo. The draft is available for 5 days after you save it. You find it as a Draft card at the top of the inspection list. Tap the card to finish the inspection.

Good to know

  • Inspections are available in all plans. When your plan has expired, you cannot save a new inspection. You can still see the saved inspections.
  • In a shared apiary, only a person with Full access can add an inspection. With Restricted access, there is no Inspection tab.
  • In a web browser, RAW/DNG photos do not work. Add a JPG or PNG photo.
  • The assistant does not look at inspection photos.

When something does not work

  • Add one more photo: a required frame photo is missing.
  • Failed to upload photos: check your internet connection. The app tries the upload again in the background.
