How to record a treatment and check that it worked

The app has no separate "treatment" entry. Record the treatment as a note: to one hive or to the whole apiary. Check the result of the treatment with an examination before and after the treatment. Record the check date as a task.

How to record a treatment in one hive

  1. Open the hive screen, Notes tab.
  2. Tap the add button. Add note opens.
  3. Set Date to the day of the treatment.
  4. In the Title (optional) field, type for example "Treatment".
  5. In the Note field, type the product, the method and the dose from the leaflet. You can also record a voice note.
  6. Optionally, tap Add attachment and add a photo of the package or the leaflet.
  7. Tap Save.

How to record a treatment in all hives of an apiary

  1. Open the apiary screen.
  2. Tap Add, then Note.
  3. Fill in the note as above and tap Save.

The app shows: This note will be visible for every hive in this apiary. Each hive gets a copy of the note. When you delete the note in one hive, only the copy in this hive is deleted.

The app does not let you select some hives for one note. When the treatment is for some of the hives only, add a note in each of these hives.

How to plan a check after the treatment

  1. Open the apiary screen. Tap Add, then Task.
  2. In the Scope field, select Apiary or Selected hives.
  3. In the Task field, type for example "Check the mite drop after the treatment".
  4. Set the Task date and tap Save.

Set the check date from the product leaflet or from the advice of a veterinarian.

How to check that the treatment worked

Compare two results of the same examination: before the treatment and after it. For varroosis, this is for example the daily natural drop or the sugar roll. Write both results in notes to the hive. Compare them with the levels in the article Which diseases we detect and what the infection levels mean.

When the hive has a VitalSensor and an active varroa alert, monitor the alert. The alert moves to Completed when the measurements show a healthy colony again. Apisense PRO AI

Good to know

  • The app does not assess the treatment automatically. You assess the result from the examination results.
  • The Examinations tab is available only in the research programme. Participants record the examination results there, not in notes. Research programme
  • You cannot move a note to another hive.
  • Do not pour the product directly onto the VitalSensor or the Scale. Obey the instructions of the product manufacturer.
