Protocol 5 — honey sample collection (mandatory)

Collect a honey sample from every colony equipped with an Apisense VitalSensor for laboratory testing in Lublin.

Number of samples

Prepare one sample from each colony equipped with a sensor: number of sensors = number of samples.

Video tutorial

Materials

  • Plastic tube with a blue cap — supplied with the Apisense kit (1 tube per colony)
  • A kitchen spoon — the easiest tool for scooping honey off the frame
  • Disposable gloves
  • Permanent marker for labelling the tube

Procedure

  1. Pick a frame from the honey super of a colony equipped with a VitalSensor.
  2. Scoop the honey directly from the frame with the spoon into the tube with the blue cap.

  3. Fill the tube completely.

  4. Close the cap and clean the outside of the tube so that it is not sticky.

Wax fragments are acceptable

The collected honey may contain small fragments of wax — there is no need to filter or spin it.

Register the sample in the app

  1. In the Apisense app: add sample / register examination → examination type = honey → generate code.
  2. The app generates a unique sample code assigned to this colony.
  3. Label the tube with the generated code (using a permanent marker).

Shipping

Add this sample to the package described in Shipping samples.
