How much sugar and water for syrup. Syrup calculator

The syrup calculator is in the Syrup tab of each hive. Select the ratio and enter how many litres of ready syrup you want to make. The calculator tells how much water and how much sugar you need. The calculator does not need devices and works in each plan, also after the plan expires.

How to use the syrup calculator

  1. Open the hive. Select the Syrup tab. It is the second tab, after Hive state.
  2. At Ratio:, select 1:1, 3:2 or 2:1. The calculator opens with 3:2.
  3. In the How much syrup do I want to make? field, enter the number of litres: from 0.1 to 2000.
  4. Read the result: For {liters} litres of syrup you need: Water (l) and Sugar (kg or pounds, as set by the mass unit in the account settings).

The result also shows the Syrup mass, the percentage of sugar by mass and the grams of sugar per litre. Copy recipe copies the result. You can paste it into a note.

What the syrup ratios mean

The ratio is the ratio of the mass of sugar to the mass of water. You weigh the sugar. You do not measure it by volume.

  • 1:1: 50% sugar by mass. In the app: Thin: to stimulate brood rearing.
  • 3:2: 60% sugar by mass. In the app: Medium: all-purpose.
  • 2:1: 66.7% sugar by mass. In the app: Thick: stores for winter or a dearth.

The calculator calculates the volume from a density table of sugar solution at 20 °C. Warm syrup has a slightly lower density. This difference is smaller than the accuracy of a bucket and of kitchen weighing equipment. Each number in the result is rounded to 0.1 separately. Thus the water and the sugar do not add up exactly to the syrup mass.

Notes and instructions in the syrup calculator

  • Do not boil the syrup: boiling makes HMF, which is dangerous for bees.
  • With 2:1: 2:1 syrup is close to saturation. In a cool feeder, the syrup crystallises.
  • Expand How to prepare. It has step-by-step instructions. Copy the instructions copies them.
  • Do not feed during a flow you want to harvest honey from, or the sugar will end up in the honey.

When the syrup calculator does not work

The calculator calculates the result on the server. It needs an internet connection. Without a connection, you see Could not calculate the recipe. Check your connection and try again. Tap Retry.
